Graston Technique®
Graston Technique® (www.grastontechnique.com)
is a form of soft tissue therapy that is designed at breaking up adhesions
and scar tissue that a formed in response to injury, overuse, and repetitive
stress (link). When soft tissues are overused or injured, a scar or
adhesion will form during the healing process. When an adhesion or scar
is present, it can restrict the range of motion and flexibility, which
can lead to a loss in strength. What sets Graston Technqiue® apart
from other forms of treatment is that is uses stainless steel instruments
that are extremely sensitive to detect and break up scar tissue and
adhesions due to over use and injury. By using the instruments, the
treatment has a great success rate because it is extremely specific
to the area. This technique is used by many athletic trainers of professional
sports teams as well as used in many college athletic training rooms.
Dr. Schmidt is one of a few certified Graston Technique® providers
